FOR IN VITRO DIAGNOSTIC USE ONLY.
RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE: Working solution: Just prior to use, mix 5 ml of Sol. I with 5 ml of Sol. II. Hemosiderin in urine appears as yellow-brown granules seen either free or within epithelial cells and occasionally in casts. Examine several drops of a centrifuged urine specimen for coarse brown granules. If coarse brown granules are present, resuspend the remainder of the sediment in the working solution and allow to remain for 10 minutes. Centrifuge specimen, discard supematent and examine microscopically.
NOTE: The use of chemically clean glassware and plastic-tipped or paraffin-coated forceps is suggested.
RESULTS: Coarse granules of hemosiderin stain blue.
